Welcome to the 30-Day Healthy Living Challenge! As promised in my introductory post, I will challenge  you to one healthy living task for every day of January. Some challenges will span a few days, but most will be just one day. The purpose of this challenge is to teach you a few healthy habits and hopefully lay the foundation for your new healthy lifestyle. Every challenge is something that I would propose to my clients in a counseling session…which is one of our prizes! To be entered to win, follow these simple steps:

How To Win: Follow along with as many days as possible, and let me know that you did by either commenting on my blog, Tweeting (@nutritionalanat) at me,posting a picture to my Instagram (nutritionalanat), orwriting on my Facebook page. Use the hashtag #ChallengealaNatalie. Since this is a 30-day challenge, I ask that you participate for at least 5 days. That’s 5 comments! I will randomly select a winner on February 1st.

We will be starting small today because small changes lead to bigger changes, which lead to a way of life. The challenge will get more difficult as we go on, but hopefully it won’t feel more difficult because you will be used to making healthy choices.

Day 1 Challenge: Rearrange Your Kitchen

Because most people are hanging out at home today, I’m asking you to rearrange the snacks in your kitchen. Specifically, I would like you to take the healthy snacks, such as fruit, nuts, low calorie popcorn, whole grain crackers, etc., and move them to a place where you can see them. Put a bowl of fruit on the table. Place the healthy snacks at eye level in the pantry or the cupboard. Then, take the unhealthy snacks, like the chips, candy, ice cream, etc, and hide them in the back on your food storage space or put them up high. Research has shown that you are more likely to eat what you see, so do yourself a favor and put the healthy foods out on display and hide the unhealthy foods in a high, dark space. Pretty easy, right?

These small healthy tasks lead to a healthy life…no dieting required. Don’t worry–there will be eating plans and fitness tasks to come, but, like I said, start simple.

Tell me about your Day 1 task and accomplishment.  How did it go?
