You completed 1 week of healthy living—give yourself a pat on the back! Living a healthy lifestyle is easier than you may have thought, right? I think the key ingredients for making healthy choices are having a plan and starting with small, simple realistic goals. The tasks you have completed in the past week are small things that you can do at any time to make your life a little bit healthier.
Before we get into Day 8, here’s a reminder: Follow along with as many Challenge Days as possible and let me know that you did by either commenting on my blog, Tweeting (@nutritionalanat) at me, posting a picture to my Instagram (nutritionalanat), or writing on my Facebook page. I will randomly select a winner to receive 3 nutrition counseling sessions or cooking classes.
Day 8 Challenge: Fitness Friday
Today’s challenge is a continuation of Sunday’s Day 3 challenge to get 30-minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise per day. For day 8, I want you to workout 2 specific areas: your abs and your glutes (butt).
Have you ever wondered why your abs are called your “core”? It’s because your abs are the most important muscle in the body, and they are basically connected to all the other main muscle groups. If you have weak abs, you may have back, leg and upper body problems. Your core affects your balance, ability to bend and lift, exercise capacity, and your posture. Your glute (aka your butt) muscles are connected to the majority of the muscles in your legs. With weak glutes, you may experience knee pain–an extremely common ailment (I’ve had it!).
Here’s the challenge to help you focus on both of these muscles:
- First, re-visit Day 3 to see if you are a beginner, intermediate, or advanced exerciser.
- Then, go on YouTube and search for “your skill level + core workout”. For example, “beginning core workout”. Do the same thing for “glute workout”. For an advanced glute workout, check out this video from a friend and personal trainer (this is what I’ll be doing today).
- Do at least 10 minutes of each workout.
- If you only do 20 minutes, walk for another 10 minutes to get the full 30 minutes of exercise.
I think this might be one of the toughest challenges yet. Awesome way to give your Friday an energy boost!
