I will admit that I’m definitely not a bartender, but I do enjoy making a fancy cocktail at home. This Blueberry Mojito recipe seems elaborate, but it’s so incredibly simple.
It’s a refreshing summer cocktail that you will be on your menu all summer long. And the best part is that is utilizes fresh and healthy ingredients–blueberries and fresh mint–and is lower in sugar than traditional mojito recipes.
What ingredients do you need for a Blueberry Mojito?
The key to making a delicious Blueberry Mojito is three simple ingredients: blueberries, fresh mint and fresh lime juice. This recipe starts with muddling together blueberries, fresh mint, lime juice and a drop of sugar.
Traditionally, a bartender would use a muddler to make this drink (affiliate link).
If you don’t have a muddler (I don’t), you can use a wooden spoon to mix all the ingredients together. Muddling is just a fancy word for crushing all the ingredients together.
This recipe can also be made with either club soda or seltzer. It doesn’t matter which one you have on hand since they taste very similar. Club soda usually has a few more minerals in it than seltzer, but they taste almost identical.

The other thing that makes this mojito unique is that it’s lower in sugar than most traditional mojitos. Each drink has about 1 tablespoon of sugar, which is actually less than most mojitos you would get at a bar or restaurant.
The blueberries and fresh mint add a natural sweetness to this recipe, so there’s no need to add a ton of sugar.
Can you use frozen blueberries?
Yes! If you can’t find fresh blueberries in the store or they are not in season (or too expensive), feel free to use frozen blueberries. The only difference is that they might take a little more effort to muddle.
If you have the time to think ahead, place the frozen blueberries in a bowl and pop them in the fridge for two hours to defrost.
If not, just work a little harder to muddle them until they defrost.
How to make a Blueberry Mojito Mocktail
The reason I love this recipe so much is because it’s refreshing, even without the rum. This Blueberry Mojito recipe is perfect for making a mocktail.
If you leave out the rum, increase the blueberries to 1/3 cup and soda water to 18 ounces. It also never hurts to add an additional squeeze of lime and a few more mint leaves for extra flavor.
Whether you make this cocktail with or without rum, you’re going to love it.

- 1/4 cup blueberries
- 2 tablespoon fresh mint
- 2 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
- 3 ounces white rum
- 16 ounces soda water
Place the blueberries, mint, sugar and lime juice in a pitcher. Muddle together.
Add the rum and soda water to the pitcher and stir. Divide evenly between two glasses.
