Vegan Tempeh Burger

If you read the title, then you know my secret ingredient to the BEST vegan veggie burger. That’s right–it’s tempeh. I’ve tried to make a good veggie burger for years (no exaggeration). I’ve used so many different ingredients as the base, and it always either falls apart or is too dry. But I’ve finally done it! This vegan & gluten-free veggie burger stays together, is super flavorful and has plenty of protein. And it makes the perfect compliment to this Miso Slaw.

If you’re unfamiliar with this soy protein, you’re in luck. This fun video talks about my new fav ingredient and shows you how easy it is to make a delicious homemade veggie burger from scratch!

Vegan Tempeh Burger

Servings 4 burgers

  • 8 ounces tempeh
  • 2 carrots chopped
  • 1 pepper chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves peeled
  • 1/4 shallot
  • 2 teaspoon liquid smoke
  • 2 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon sriracha
  • 2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup old fashioned oats
  • 2 tablespoons oil any kind

  1. These veggie burgers can be made in the oven or on the stovetop. If you're baking in the oven, preheat to 400 degree F.
  2. Add all of the ingredients to a food processor and blend until smooth. You may have to stop and scrape down the sides.
  3. Using your hands, form four patties. Brush each one with oil and cook thoroughly. (Bake for 20 minutes, flipping the pattie halfway through the cooking process OR Sautee for 5-7 minutes on each side in a skillet.)
